The use of PVC board to make the PVC Porch column wrap not only enhances the beauty of the column, but also provides additional protection.
Potentech offers two different types of PVC sheets for PVC column wraps: PVC co-extruded sheet and PVC foam sheet.
The PVC co-extruded board with a V-Groove slot by a CNC machine. PVC foam board with a specific slot using a slotting machine.
Here is a detailed step-by-step guide to help you wrap your post with PVC foam board.
Step 1: Prepare materials and tools
Before you start, make sure you have all the necessary materials and tools:
PVC foam board
Measuring tape
Miter saw or circular saw
Notching machine
Building adhesive
Decorative nails or screws
Seal gun and external sealant
sandpaper
Paint (if required)
Safety equipment (gloves, goggles)
Step 2: Measure and cut the sheet
First, measure the height and width of the column. According to the measurement results, the PVC foam board is cut to the appropriate size with a miter saw or circular saw. Make sure to take into account the decorative elements at the top or bottom of the column and adjust the dimensions appropriately.
Step 3: Slot
Use a slotting machine to slot the edges of the PVC foam board. The depth and width of the grooving should meet Potentech's specifications, ensuring that the sheet will bend slightly and wrap tightly around the post. Be careful when handling to avoid damaging the sheet.
Step 4: Install the plate
Apply construction adhesive evenly to the back of the first sheet, then snug it against the post. Secure the board with decorative nails or screws to ensure it is secure. Repeat the process with the remaining sheet, making sure the edges are aligned and the notches are tightly joined.
Step 5: Complete the installation
After all panels have been installed, fill any gaps or joints with an external sealant. Smooth the sealant using a sealing tool or your fingers to ensure a smooth appearance. Sand any rough edges or uneven areas to ensure a smooth surface.
If desired, the board can be painted with a high quality external paint to match the exterior of the house. This step is optional because the PVC foam board itself comes in a variety of colors and finishes that may already match your design.
Step 6: Final check
After installation, a thorough inspection is carried out to ensure that all plates are firmly fixed and the surface is smooth and flat. Make any adjustments or repairs as needed to achieve the best results.
